Welcome, Winter!

Winter has arrived in Whistler and our not-so-little mountain town is covered in snow and ready to welcome visitors for the holiday season. With a few more days left of work and school, there’s a buzz in the air that certainly feels like everyone is ready to get in the Christmas spirit. Looking for things to do over the holidays? Here are some great options:

SKI OR RIDE

Whistler Blackcomb is in full force and with a few big days of snow so conditions are looking great up there. A few things have changed this year, so make sure to do a little research online before you arrive. Guests will not need to make reservations in order to load lifts and gondolas and this year they will operate at normal capacity. You will however need to wear a mask in the gondolas as well as anytime indoors – restaurants, lodges, rental locations etc. Reservations are required for all dining on mountain and you are required to show proof of vaccination and ID to dine at indoor restaurants. FREE-DOM TO CHOOSE

There are plenty (plenty!) of things to do in Whistler that are easy on the pocketbook. The snow-capped mountains here in Whistler are unmatched, hop in your car and drive around to our iconic lakes and viewpoints – Green Lake, Creekside, Rainbow Park and Nita Lake are all must-sees – don’t forget your camera! The Resort Municipality of Whistler always does an outstanding job decorating the many festive trees and buildings in Whistler Village. Start in Whistler’s Upper Village at The Fairmont and then wander over the covered bridge and throughout the village. Here is some more information about the sights of Whistler.

WIND IN YOUR…TOQUE

Whistler’s Tube Park has been a long-time favourite of locals and visitors alike. With 7 lanes to choose from, start with the gentle slopes and work your way up to the longer and faster lanes. This is such fun activity for families of all ages and they’re open until 6:00pm so you have plenty of time to visit post-skiing.

BRAAAP

Dubbed as one of Canada’s favourite pastimes, taking a guided snowmobile tour through snow covered forest is sure to be the highlight of your trip to Whistler. Canadian Wilderness Adventures offers beginner, intermediate and experienced riders are all welcome and kiddos can even try their hand at their very own mini-z snowmobiles on a specialized track! Most tours take place in the backcountry of Sproatt Mountain from in the Callaghan Valley.

BE AN OLYMPIAN

In 2010, Whistler hosted the Winter Olympic Games and since then, our mountain town has managed to share our love of Olympic Sports with guests from around the world. Start at the Whistler Sliding Centre where you can be a passenger in a real Bobsleigh or Skeleton. You don’t need training – just a positive, thrill-seeking attitude! South of Whistler is Whistler Olympic Park in the gorgeous Callaghan Valley where you can cross-country ski, snowshoeing or even try your hand at the Olympic sport of biathlon which is a combination of target shooting along with cross-country skiing. Rentals and lessons are available and you can warm up with a hot cup of cocoa in the lodge after.
