SEPTEMBER IN WHISTLER
As we wind down to the last few weeks of summer, I can’t help but feel like September brings a shift in season and in mindset. Everyone is back to school this week and seemingly back to work and routines. The weather in Whistler has cooled off a bit but we are lucky that the sunshine has decided to stick around the next couple weeks so I’m sure going to pack in some last adventures before the cooler weather really arrives and the inevitable rain that comes along with it!
COVID-19 UPDATE – This week, Canada announced that borders are now open to fully vaccinated international travellers. A long awaited day for many visitors waiting to travel to Canada for tourism or to visit loved ones. For more information on rules for entry, click here.
WEEKEND WARRIOR
Although I do work some on the weekends, I do try to always make it to Whistler Farmers Market on Sundays at The Racket Club. Not only is it a great place to stock up on fresh produce (blueberries, raspberries, corn, tomatoes etc.) from local Farmers, but its also a great place to grab some treats (the empanadas are incredible and so are the pocket pies) and some artisan goods (think handmade signs, clothing and even wood sunglasses)
The Market’s new location for 2021 is at Whistler Racket Club and they host safe and distanced programming for all to enjoy, in addition to their normal recreational offerings which include tennis, pickle ball, kids combo play zones, axe throwing and more. There are five more Sundays to visit the Market before it closes for the season on October 10. I love this time of year to see all of the seasonal changes in produce – pumpkin, squash and potatoes!
HIKE IT
You may know how much Chief and I love strolling the Valley Trail but there’s another, lesser known trail in Whistler that is great for walking and is gorgeous this time of year as the trees are changing colours.
The Sea to Sky Trail is a 180 kilometre trail that runs from Squamish all the way up to D’Arcy. Some parts of the trail are still under construction however the Whistler section of the Sea to Sky Trail is 33 kilometres long and runs between Brandywine Falls Provincial Park and WedgeWoods Estates just north of Green Lake, near the trailhead for Wedgemount Lake.
TUNE IN
Whistler’s iconic Audain Art Museum has introduced ‘Tuesday Night Talks’ that offer an amazing opportunity to not only enter the museum but also an artists home or studio while learning about the museum’s permanent collection from their respective makers! This is such a unique and intimate experience that I would highly recommend and the great thing about these is that you can tune in from wherever you live.
BE AWARE…of BEARS
I shared this photo this week on my Instagram not only because I love bears in general but because I feel so strongly about keeping Whistler’s bears wild. One of the programs that helps Whistler do that is AWARE. Whistler is bear country and these mountains are their homes! When we are exploring all that Whistler has to offer, we need to avoid possible conflicts and also know what do do in an encounter. Whistler is one of only 8 communities in BC that is recognized as Bear Safe and it’s a designation we take seriously. Aware Whistler is a charity organization that works to protect Whistler’s natural environment and they offer some great resources to help us all be more Bear Smart. Curious about what they do, what you can do or where you can donate to this amazing organization, click here.
