Welcome, July!

Summer is officially here and in full swing. BC is currently in Phase 3 of the Restart Plan and thanks to about 70% of our population being vaccinated, we are well on our way to a more normal summer. Some new things we can do is host indoor and outdoor gatherings with no caps on the number of people, attend larger events (wedding season!) and Canada-wide recreational travel! As soon as the next phase was announced, Whistler definitely saw a surge in visitors and it was so nice to feel the ‘buzz’ in Whistler once again. Click here to learn more about BC’s Restart plan.

Last week, Whistler had a full-on heat wave and let me tell you, it was HOT. Temperatures have dipped a bit this week and its been more comfortable to be outside and take my dog on walks. go for dog walks. While we were in the heat wave, most of our mountain town found themselves at one of the many lakes in Whistler and I think we all certainly felt lucky to have so many to choose from!

IT’S A DOGS LIFE – AT THE BEACH

It’s not only us that need a way to keep cool this summer – our pooches do too! Did you know that some of the lakes have designated dog beaches and docks? That’s right, bring your furry-friend along and let them cool off too! Alpha Lake has a designated off-leash area as well as a dog-dock. Rainbow Park (Alta Lake) has Barking Bay, a designated off-leash area with a small grass lawn and sandy beach. Dogs also have access to the swimming dock as well. My dog Chief prefers Lost Lake’s ‘Canine Cove’ with a great off-leash area with wide sandy beach. Read more about the beaches and their locations here.

GOING UP

…the mountain! Whistler Blackcomb is open for sightseeing on the incredible PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola. Get 360-degree views of Whistler Village, glacial lakes and forests. While you’re up there, take advantage of 50+ km of hiking trails. The air is cooler on the mountain so it’s a great way to spend a hot day. Don’t forget your camera as the views are spectacular. Make sure you check hours of operation before you go.

PADDLE’S UP

If getting IN the water isn’t your cup of tea, why not get ON the water! Whistler offers such a wide range of watersports – Canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and more. Whistler Eco Tours specialize in guided tours where you can learn about Whistler’s unique biodiversity. Paddle ‘The River of Golden Dreams’ (yes, it is dreamy!) that links Alta Lake and Green Lake. If you do this route, I highly recommend finishing at Green Lake. Coincidently the restaurant Table Nineteen is just on the other side of the lake and has arguable the best views (and margaritas) in Whistler.
Whitewater Rafting with is also a fun activity if you like a little more adrenaline, they are guided by experts who paddle you safely through the rapids.

SPAHHH

After a day at the beach or exploring Whistler, the absolute best way to relax and recharge is at Whistler’s Scandinave Spa. Enjoy some hydrotherapy using hot baths, steam baths, wood burning saunas, Finnish saunas and Nordic showers and waterfalls and a cold plunge pool. After the hydrotherapy, you can relax in one of the solariums, at the fireplace lounge or stretch in the yoga studio. I would recommend adding a massage to really experience the full effect of the spa. Make your reservation here.

With British Columbia open and Canada-wide travel also open, the Whistler real estate market continued to see high buyer activity coupled with low available inventory to purchase in June.
